Friday evening - part 2 on the rocks
We drove around Rocks Road a wee way till we found a spot to park near the ladder to the rocks.
I have driven past here many many times, always intrigued by the rocks and wanting to explore but never having time.
So tonight was a good time to do just that.
I love rocks.
The children had so much fun exploring all the crevices and rock pools.
I loved the textures and patterns they made.
The sun was sinking below the horizon so it was extra lovely in the evening light.

Mahalia took this of me in front of Fifeshire Rock.
Azzan found this wee crab and wanted to know if it was illegal to put it on the main road?
We finally pulled ourselves away and drove home.
I got the children all settled and into bed after plates of ice cream and fruit.
I had no sooner sat down to start blogging when Tim walked in the door.
It was great to see him after 2 weeks.
Then just as we were trying to work out how to juggle vehicles John & Frances arrived back in their bus.
I left them to it and shot back to Tahunanui to pick up Nathan from Epic.
The Ashton's had picked him up and brought him half way so I had a chat with Phillipa while Nathan got his possum back.
We just caught the supermarket before it shut at 11pm.
I was craving some cranberry juice so Nathan zoomed in and grabbed some for me.
Then it was back home.
Sat and chatted with Frances, John & Tim.
Finally got to bed around midnight.
Such a long day of taxi driving.
I am so totally over this for a job
-
Friday evening - part 1
Chrissy arrived up with the boys and we had a quick last cuppa.
She took off with her own boys to pick Russell and go home.
I took some photos before they left.
Nathan being a scarecrow - or a zombie or whatever!
Joel, Asher, Azzan, Yari & Nathan in John's new garden.
We have all had such a great fortnight together that parting was such sweet sorrow.
After they left I took a few big breaths and took 5.
Then it was nearly 6pm and I had to take Katherine home and pick up Mahalia.
It was such a beautiful night that we decided to go to the beach.
We got fish and chips and met Seb & Zoe at Tahunanui playground.
We chatted while the kids played.
Then they left to go run the dog on the back beach and so we finally ate - accompanied by noisy, stupid, invading seagulls.
Then we went over the dunes to the beach.
Because of the full moon the tide was way way out - the expanse of beach was an inviting paradise.
There were really cool patterns in the sand and the shells.
I found Azzan drawing around himself,
then he made butterflies in the sand.
We decided to go back to the car and move around the beach further.
A final play in the playground before we moved. -
Our last day at swimming
I told the kids if we got away a bit earlier we would have time to pop in to Richmond Saddlery.
So they were most enthusiastic and we left the house at 8:45am.
Stopped off for my morning life saver - there is a new summer menu so I am enjoying Black Cherry Mocha frappacinos at the moment - delicious
We had a fun time at the saddlery.
Got the girls sized for helmets and boots.
Will buy later when they have grown a bit more and hopefully when there is a sale.
Athol at the Saddlery said they often have helmet sales.
It is definitely looking like a rather expensive hobby
Especially with two girls now into it.
Azzan commented that he would like to ride too - I threw my hands up in total horror and cried 'No'!!!
We dropped the girls at riding and then headed off to see Chrissy and the boys.
Pat was there finishing off some building.
Chrissy had made the most amazingly delicious chocolate brownie which we devoured for morning tea while we sat in the sunshine.
Azzan dressed up as a ferocious viking.
Scary! - not!
I left Azzan with Asher and I took Yari.
Picked up the girls at midday.
Dropped Nathan & Yari at the Richmond library.
Then took the girls into The Warehouse.
Shanni spent her b'day money on Lego.
Hali was looking for shorts.
All we could find was very very short ones or mid calf length ones.
She was wanting around knee length.
We shot into town.
Whizzed through Farmers and then on to Postie.
Found a pair or green ones on sale plus found rash vests to fit all three kids at a very good price.
Zoomed back to the car, Hali commented as we rushed past Farmers that she thought we were going to look there.
We had!
I am just getting really good at casting my eyes around very fast and if I see nothing we move on quickly to some other more promising shops.
Obviously it was so fast Hali hadn't grasped that we were actually there!!!
Got to swimming in good time.
Nathan & Yari were having their normal boisterous times between lessons.

Yari is under there somewhere - poor guy!
Shanni & Joel conversed and socialised in a more civilised manner
Melissa teaching the older ones to dive.
Mahalia showing her lovely style.
Melissa bought her under water camera so has some great shots which she is going to send through to me soon.
We were all really sad to be finishing our lessons.
For ones so reticent about water both Chrissy and I are now trying to work swimming into our weekly timetable.
I don't want to lose what I have built up.
It feels so good
Azzan snuck into the office and gave Melissa a huge big hug and kiss to say thanks.
Thanks from us all Melissa - you are a fantastic teacher.
After swimming we did a heaps of child swaping.
Azzan went with Chrissy.
Yari came with us.
I had organised to pick up Katherine.
But then realised I short a seat.
Nathan called up Margaret as we were driving up the hill and asked if we could swap Katherine for Mahalia for the next few years
That was all cool.
So we dropped one and got the other.
Admired the new deck, chatted for 5 and then took off and left them to their pre wedding chaos.
We came straight home to do the big clean up.
Shanni vacummed.
Nathan was sposed to be mowing the lawns but Yari soon took over and relegated Nathan to the raking.
The boys trying to sort out what compost bins to put the clippings in.
Katherine was most excited to mop the floor.
Said it was her favourite job.
Who am I to argue with that
It really didn't take too long to get the house back into a presentable condition.

I am so tired tonight I can barely think straight to remember what we did today.
But here goes - I will just give the ole brain matter a crank up and see what thoughts and remembrances I can scrape up.
Shanni & Nathan had sewing lessons at 10am.
We managed to get to them on time with a few minutes up our sleeve to pop into the Info Centre so Nathan could grab a map to work out his route to Taekwondo this arvo.
I am trying to allow him and the girls where feasible to find their own ways around so they get to know the city better.
It is too easy just to follow Mum and not think where they are are or where they have been etc.
I was planning on going to visit Heather in Tahunanui while they were sewing.
We called into the shoe repair place as my shoe needed a stud to hold it together.
While he was fixing it we browsed Briscoes.
I found the most gorgeous crockery on a sale - it was so cheap I just had to get some plates to add to our kitchen.
I so want to get more but better behave myself!
Then just as I was about to head to Tahunanui Nathan text me to say he had left his taekwondo stuff at the house.
Bother
So we zipped back to Atawhai to pick it up and then drove straight to Tahunanui before anything else could get in the way.
I had a lovely time with Heather while Mahalia and Azzan socialised with her children.
Who ever said that socialisation was a problem for home educated children certainly had their wires totally crossed!!
Everywhere we go these days Azzan heads straight to the piano and plays his rendition.
And if there is none he has to know why they don't have one!!
The children had a quick bite to eat for lunch before we left to go pick up the others.
They were still hard at it so I had to wait a while.
They both made cushion covers learning many basic techniques and terms and also how to insert a zip.
They are both very proud of their efforts.
It was such a beautiful day we were all very ready to go swimming.
To make the getting in less painful I decided to jump in the deep end - aren't I just the bravest one now
Melissa took this pic of Chrissy and I doing the 1950's look - aren't we gorgeous??
When the children opened the back door of the Safari the sewing machine fell out and hit the concrete.
So after swimming I took it straight to the shop to get it checked out.
Miraculously, once Carl and put all the casing back the way it should be, all that was broken was the light bulb.
I had been having visions of yet another insurance claim whereas it just cost me $4 for a new bulb.
We were going to take the kids to the beach but didn't have enough time before Nathan had to be at Taekwondo so decided just to go out to Richmond Mall for a coffee.
Nathan, using his map, walked up to his lesson while we released the rest of the children into Toyworld under Yari's watchful eye while the two of us sat in the afternoon sun and enjoyed a drink and chat at Ambrosia.
The children totaly chrmed the shop attendants and by the time we got there Yari was extremely pleased to be relieved of his duties and made a beeline for the van!!
We dutifully oohed and aahed over the toys and Sylvanian with the kids for a while and then herded them all toward the vehicles.
It was 6pm so Chrissy and crew went off home and I got some sushi etc to keep the kids going till after we picked up Nathan.
We popped around to visit Kathy while we ate our food.
It was lovely to catch up with her and hear about her Melbourne holiday.
She had talked with Jesika and brought home a big hug from her for us
At 7:30pm we picked up Nathan.
Then it was decided that it was to late and the wind to cold to go to the beach for tea as planned.
So I popped into Countdown and got some food to cook at home.
Nathan & Shanni had a quick explore of The Warehouse as they have money burning holes in their pockets.
The two wee ones sat in the car and watched a ballet performance on the dvd player.
They were both so weary it was better than traising the aisles.
Back to the house and we cooked up a real healthy meal of mini hash browns baked beans, eggs and left overs.
Of course Azzan had to have his salad filled wrap as well.
He is rather hooked on them at the moment.
I quickly got them all off to bed and did the dishes with Nathan's help.
He has also gone to bed and I am about to follow.
Tomorrow is our last official swimming day so we need lots of energy to give it our best shot!!

Wednesday
I woke up extra early this morning - the moon was full and absolutely beautiful as it shone and glistened over the harbour.
Went back to bed and slept for another few hours.
Was a struggle to raise my head off the pillow.
Azzan was up and planning his day well before I was ready.
It was forecast to rain heavily but as the morning was so lovely I got washing done and hung on the line.
We left a tad later than normal cuz we didn't have to be at sewing lessons till 10am.
And they are on this side of the city which makes a change from everything else over the far side.
I left Nathan & Shanni with Pam for the next 3 hours.
We picked up Sophie and headed out to Richmond.
Spent an hour or two with Rachel and her two wee darlings.
The kids were soon playing a boisterous game of hide and seek dinosaurs!!
I had to prise ourselves away at midday and go get sushi for lunch and then drop Sophie off home and be back at Pam's by 1pm to pick up Nathan & Shanni.
Nathan had had a great time.
Shanni was more reserved as to it all.
Pam had covered a lot of ground so that is good.
She is making sure they get the basics properly before moving on to greater things.
We did a quick stop off at Spotlight to buy some zips for tomorrows lesson.
Then on to swimming.
Spent the next hour having our lessons.
Still no rain!
After swimming we zoomed into town and I had a 30min massage.
Marta is so good and I come out feeling so rejuvenated.
The children were brilliant.
They just waited quietly in the Safari and watched 'Shark Tales' on the portable dvd player.
From there we came straight home.
I had a shower while the kids got things sorted.
Nathan made banana smoothies and then cooked dinner.
I made Azzan two salad wraps.
The were all so tired that they were happy to just sit awhile.
It has been the first time since we came to town that they have watched a movie.
I left them watching the end of Shark Tales and the end of 'Oliver' before heading off to bed.
It was the first time Nathan was officially left to babysit.
He had his own movie to watch once the others were in bed.
I am back home now and they are all in bed - there is no blood on the floor so it would appear that all has gone well while I have been absent
I went to 'Smugglers' for our Home School Mothers' Night out.
We had a great time.
There was 10 of us there for the main course and 4 others arrived to have dessert and coffee.
Lots of laughter and hilarity and chat amongst us all.
We were all in stitches for a while as Sally regales us with things Azzan had said while she was looking after him on Saturday.
We sat out in the front courtyard.
It was a very pleasant evening.
Still no rain!!
Adrienne took my camera and did some random shots so she wouldn't be in them!!
Linda, Phillip & Mel being served dessert.
This is most of us.
Linda, Phillipa, Deirdre, Estelle, Rachel, Hannah, Marianne, Louise, Sally and myself.
Mel, Deirdre and Estelle.
Deirdre regaled us with accounts of their family's adventures on their new yacht .
They are total greenhorns at it so it is rather hilarious!!
And down the other end were Corinne and Chrissy having a deep and meaningful conversation
Sally got a Knickerbocker Glory.
It looked totally decadent - she said it was really good.
Personally I thought it looked totally sickening!
Oh to be young and not have to worry about all that cream
Marianne, Sally, Mel and Linda trying out the priests seats for size.
Debating whether the lift up seats were actually commodes
After a lot of prolonged chat and goodbyes we all headed off in our various directions.
A wonderful time - thanks everyone for coming!
I then headed up the road to join the end of Amy's hen night.
She had been dressed by her sisters.
Doesn't she look glam?
I finally headed home at 11pm.
This is a very fast catch up as I am crawling upstairs to bed now.
